Our visit from Laura

We had Laura from Animates come and visit our class.

We told her some things we have been learning about our rabbit, and she answered our questions.

 We went into our school garden and showed Laura what leaves we thought our rabbit would like.

 Tūpeke has his first adventure outside with his harness.

At first he was a bit scared. Laura told us that when he started eating some grass it meant that he wasn't scared any more.

Dizah knows that we don't pull on the lead.

Ngataupaki knows that we keep the lead loose between us and Tūpeke.

 Laura taught us how to hold the lead the right way. 

Walking a rabbit isn't the same as walking a dog, so we had to learn how.

Tūpeke feels safe with Petelo.

Peter Rabbit

We have been learning about rabbits.

We watched a youtube video of Peter Rabbit eating Mr McGregors carrots after his mum told him not to, then we wrote our own stories about it... here they are!

Our first Skype!!

Last week we were lucky enough to skype our Quadblogging friends from Hamilton East School.

We had lots of fun making new friends. 

We told each other our names, and talked about our days. 

We look forward to skyping again!

Our start to learning fractions

Room 1 and 2 were lucky enough to do all their learning together today!

For Maths we did a snapshot on learning fractions, and in partners we had to think about how to make a half and a quarter, what they look like, and what one half and one quarter means... we started off with pencil and paper, and then had a bit more fun...

We have had wonderful rain jackets donated to us by KidsCan, and now we have super cool new shoes!

Making Ginger Beer!

We have started to make Ginger Beer in Room 2.

Through making it we have looked at how some solids dissolve into liquids, and some don't. 

Right now our Ginger Beer is sitting next to the heater to make the yeast grow... which will make a gas!

Petelo and Dziah worked together to pour the  Sugar through the funnel.

Now we add the wet mix!

Lia was our photographer, but still got a turn at shaking!

We had to shake to mix everything together!!

 In a few days our Ginger Beer should be ready to drink!

Solid, Liquid, Gas

In Room 2 we have been learning about what a solid, liquid and gas is. 

To help with this we have been doing a lot of hands on experiments... which we LOVE doing!!!

In our class we have salt crystals growing and been watching how we can make a solid into a liquid and how it turns back into a solid, we have also seen this through our melted crayon pictures which glow in the windows when the sun shines through!

We have looked at eggs, and made predictions about what they were like inside their solid shell... Room 2 though that it was a solid too, 

but when Mrs Vercoe broke the egg it was a liquid!!

We then cooked them and saw steam which Petelo knew was a gas, then we broke them again and found that they had turned into a solid!!

Yesterday we started an experiment with 'water boxes', we tried to hold them, but they always fell though our fingers... a liquid needs to be in  a container with no holes, 

or it will go EVERYWHERE!!
Our 'water boxes' are now in the freezer to change them into a solid... I wonder what they will look like this afternoon!

Welcome to Term 2!!

In maths we are learning about measurement.

The Term has started with a hiss and a roar, getting right back into some awesome learning with wonderful smiles on our faces!

Room 1 and 2 get to join together for Netball!

We are learning how to pass and catch a ball.

Emms is our Netball coach, she is really good at catching and passing!

We had buddy time today with Room 9!

We're looking forward to doing more learning together throughout the year.

WELCOME TO ROOM 2

WOW the start of the term has absolutely flown by! 

Miss Elliott and Room 2 can't believe that it's already the end of week 6!

Below is a snippet of a catchup through photos of what we have been up to... Bring on 2013!

We have had Butterfly plants in our class this term - First we needed
to put them outside so the butterfly could lay eggs!

The eggs were tiny!! We had fun looking at them every day to
see if they had hatched. 

They were TINY when they first hatched

But soon they grew!

We painted one side of the paper, then folded it over to make butterflies!
