We are good at ART!!!

We are really good at art in Room 2.
Today we had Mrs Manuyag come and teach us how to smudge when using pastels.
We did SUCH good work because we listened well and we didn't rush our work.

WALT take a screen shot

We have been learning how to use the technology in our class.
We now know how to take a screen shot on the iPad.
We can use a screen shot to show our learning, capture our writing and record progress in a game.

All of the photos below are screen shots the students took.

We like MUSIC

In Room 2 we absolutely love going to the music room to learn how to play the ukulele's and bucket drums.

Mrs Vercoe loves how well we listen there and how well we follow instructions (even when she doesn't use her voice!!).

Have a look at what we've been doing!

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2013

Here is our movie which is a part of the Manaiakalani film festival for 2013.
Please watch, enjoy and COMMENT!!

Room 2 is a class of New Entrant and year 1 Students. There are lots of new things you have to learn when you start school, and one of them is learning how to read.
Learning to read takes involvement from many people.
In this movie students in Room 2 share a song they originally wrote about some of the people they read with through the week.
Reading is important and it is fun!

Vet Visit

Our pet rabbit Tūpeke is going for a visit to the vets.

We talked about how we will miss him, and the students in Room 2 wanted to know if Tūpeke would be ok with the vets. We talked about what a vets job is, and decided that he would be very safe with them.

Here are some messages we wanted to say to the vets.

We are also learning what we have to do to be a performer, some ideas we came up with were...
- Being brave
- Practice
- Focus on the audience
- Practice
- Speak clearly
- Practice
- Stand nicely

Hope filmed us singing our song.
This is our first attempt as a class. After watching it we talked about what we could do to make it better, and we have some things to work on (Like more people playing the ukulele, looking at the camera, having our best voices and smiles....).
You will have to look back to see how we have improved after working on being a performer!

We have been learning about rabbits.

Our start to learning fractions

Room 1 and 2 were lucky enough to do all their learning together today!

For Maths we did a snapshot on learning fractions, and in partners we had to think about how to make a half and a quarter, what they look like, and what one half and one quarter means... we started off with pencil and paper, and then had a bit more fun...

We are learning AFL

Today we had our first AFL lesson - we will be learning skills and how to play until the end of Term 2.
We had a go at doing the 'drop punt' today and we need to remember that the 'Lace is away from the face!'

In Room 2 we help each other learn!

In Room 2 we are all very clever, which means that we can help others when we finish our work!
Dziah is helping Kurariki colour in half of some shapes.
Well done Dziah and Kurariki!

Solid, Liquid, Gas

In Room 2 we have been learning about what a solid, liquid and gas is.
To help with this we have been doing a lot of hands on experiments... which we LOVE doing!!!

In our class we have salt crystals growing and been watching how we can make a solid into a liquid and how it turns back into a solid, we have also seen this through our melted crayon pictures which glow in the windows when the sun shines through!

We have looked at eggs, and made predictions about what they were like inside their solid shell... Room 2 though that it was a solid too,
but when Mrs Vercoe broke the egg it was a liquid!!
We then cooked them and saw steam which Petelo knew was a gas, then we broke them again and found that they had turned into a solid!!

Yesterday we started an experiment with 'water boxes', we tried to hold them, but they always fell though our fingers... a liquid needs to be in  a container with no holes,
or it will go EVERYWHERE!!
Our 'water boxes' are now in the freezer to change them into a solid... I wonder what they will look like this afternoon!
