In the mirror I can see a lion.

Solid, Liquid, Gas

In Room 2 we have been learning about what a solid, liquid and gas is. 

To help with this we have been doing a lot of hands on experiments... which we LOVE doing!!!

In our class we have salt crystals growing and been watching how we can make a solid into a liquid and how it turns back into a solid, we have also seen this through our melted crayon pictures which glow in the windows when the sun shines through!

We have looked at eggs, and made predictions about what they were like inside their solid shell... Room 2 though that it was a solid too, 

but when Mrs Vercoe broke the egg it was a liquid!!

We then cooked them and saw steam which Petelo knew was a gas, then we broke them again and found that they had turned into a solid!!

Yesterday we started an experiment with 'water boxes', we tried to hold them, but they always fell though our fingers... a liquid needs to be in  a container with no holes, 

or it will go EVERYWHERE!!
Our 'water boxes' are now in the freezer to change them into a solid... I wonder what they will look like this afternoon!

We have been learning how to type out the stories that we have been reading in class, and then have them read back to us.

Our WONDERFUL new rain jackets!!

Tamaki Primary is lucky enough to have KidsCan donate to us some absolutely awesome rain jackets... Just at the right time too, with all the rain we've been having!!

Room 2 put them on to see how nice and warm they were, and then went outside to try them out..

THANK YOU KidsCan!!

They definitely keep us nice and dry!!

iPads and Will.i.am!!

Tamaki Primary is a part of the Manaiakalani program. 

The seniors in the school have their own netbooks which they work on, and the juniors have just got some iPads in their classes learn with!!

Welcome to Term 2!!

In maths we are learning about measurement.

The Term has started with a hiss and a roar, getting right back into some awesome learning with wonderful smiles on our faces!

Room 1 and 2 get to join together for Netball!

We are learning how to pass and catch a ball.

Emms is our Netball coach, she is really good at catching and passing!

Miss Elliott is now Mrs Vercoe!

There has been a change in Room 2... over the holidays Miss Elliott went away and got married! 

Her new name is Mrs Vercoe.

There has been lots happening in Room 2 the last little while....

Last week on Friday we had our Duffy Role model assembly.
Our role model was Tony Williams, he talked about how important it is to learn words and read us some of the new book he is writing!

Paeroa and Paki were given Duffy books for having an awesome attitude towards reading! 

 Last week we had a go at paper mache, Our shared book for the week was 'The swamp nest', so we made some swamp eggs! We learnt what happens when we mix flour and water together, and we learnt how to work together. Look at all our green balloons!

It was also the last day for Abigail before moving over to Samoa to live.
 We will miss you Abigail, hope you have a great time over there, and keep up the awesome learning!

Easter eggs and Calais is 6!!

Last Thursday Tamaki Primary was gifted Easter Eggs! Janaiah was very happy about getting hers.

The students in Room 2 weren't allowed to eat them until they got home, when  we talked about them today, some students ate them all on their own, some shared with others, and some gave them to their brothers and sisters to have! 

Calais is now 6!

Over the long weekend Calais turned 6! Room 2 had some party cake to celebrate.

Today we wrote about Ronald Mc Donald coming into our school, we were focusing on using our word cards and sounding out the letters all on our own for words that weren't on there...

Buddy Time!!

We had buddy time today with Room 9!

We're looking forward to doing more learning together throughout the year.

Today we read together and practiced our spelling words.

Our special secret visitor!

Miss Elliott told Room 2 that we were having a special visitor after morning tea, but she wouldn't say who it was.... so we had a brain storm to guess who it might be... 

We thought it could be Mrs Sharma, Miss Barlow, Mrs Kelly, Caleb, Ms Hansell, Koro, Bob or Miss Kirsty...

When we got to the hall we found out that it was...

Ronald Mc Donald!!

He came in to teach us about being safe on and near the road.
